With premium materials like pumice, black lava rock, red lava rock, zeolite & more.

Sybotanica’s mineral substrate supports the ultimate root aeration and drainage. It's ideal for hydroponics, semi-hydro setups, and self-watering systems. Whether you're a plant parent starting out or a seasoned collector, our substrate gives your green friends exactly what they need — no guesswork, no mess, no pests.

What Makes Sybotanica's Mineral Substrate So Unique?

Our mineral substrate isn’t just another soil alternative. It’s a purpose-built, soil-free growing medium designed for the long haul. Whether you're growing monsteras or hoyas, the formula is tailored to improve water control, air circulation, and nutrient delivery. From the very beginning, Sybotanica has been committed to making plants — and their owners — as happy as possible. That commitment shows in every grain of this powerful mineral mix.

Mined Sustainably in Germany, Produced With Purpose

We take sourcing seriously. The ingredients in our mineral substrate — including lava rock, zeolite, and pumice — are sustainably mined from German quarries that adhere to strict environmental standards. Production takes place in the Netherlands through social employment programs, offering meaningful jobs to those with fewer opportunities in the labor market. With Sybotanica, you’re not only helping your houseplants but supporting a greener, fairer future.

100% Fungus-Gnat Free — Guaranteed

Let’s be honest: fungus gnats are the worst. Our mineral substrate is an inorganic medium, which means it doesn’t hold organic matter — the stuff gnats love. We’re so confident in its cleanliness, we guarantee a fungus-gnat-free experience or your money back. This makes it perfect for soil-free growing or anyone switching from traditional potting mixes to a cleaner, healthier option.

Designed for Effortless Plant Care

At Sybotanica, we want plant care to feel joyful — not stressful. That’s why our mineral substrate is built to simplify your routine and supercharge your plant’s health.

Less Watering, Less Stress

Thanks to optimal water retention and drainage, our substrate dramatically reduces how often you need to water your plants. The mineral base allows for moisture to remain available without creating soggy roots — perfect for busy plant parents and self-watering systems alike. It also plays nicely with semi-hydro setups and hydroponics, offering flexibility across different growing methods.

Ideal for Root Aeration & Drainage

Strong roots need air, not just water. This substrate provides excellent root aeration, allowing oxygen to move freely and helping prevent root rot. Whether you’re using it solo or mixing it with other mineral components, the structure ensures each root can breathe, expand, and thrive. That’s the secret to healthy, vibrant plants — no mystery potting mix required.

Built for the Long Haul

We believe in sustainability — not just for the planet, but for your plant setup too. Our mineral substrate lasts for years and years without breaking down or compacting. That means fewer repottings, less waste, and consistent performance for your houseplants. Every batch is part of our greater mission: making plants happy. And when your plants are happy, so are you — and so are we.

The Power of the Perfect Mineral Mix

Our mineral mix contains carefully selected ratios of pumice, zeolite, lava rock, and more to create the perfect growing environment. Each component supports nutrient uptake, water balance, and plant resilience. It's everything your plant needs — and nothing it doesn’t. Whether you’re cultivating in semi-hydro systems or using it for improved plant drainage, this mix is ready to do the heavy lifting.

Sybotanica’s mineral substrate isn't just a product — it’s a plant-care revolution. And we’re thrilled you’re here for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this different from soil care?

Yes, growing in SYBAStones works a bit differently from using regular soil. Watering, fertilising, and transplanting all follow new rules.

It’s a great method, but not every plant is a fan. Always check if your plant is suited for semi-hydro. More info below.

How to transplant from soil to SYBAStones?

Got a cutting grown in water? You can plant it directly into SYBAStones. For soil-grown plants, it's best to remove all old soil before transplanting, especially if you've had fungus gnat issues. Clean roots are key.

Which SYBASupport fertilisers do I use with SYBAStones?

Our slow-release fertilisers (not organic) are made for SYBAStones and other semi-hydro setups.

Is this for my plant?

  • Cactus & Succulent Mix – suitable for cacti and succulents
  • Orchid Mix – ideal for orchids
  • Houseplant Mix – great for aroids, Calatheas, Ficus, Alocasias, Marantas, Dieffenbachia, and more

How do I prepare the SYBAStones before use?

Rinse the mix before use. Some dust can form during transport, which is totally normal and easy to wash off.

Are the SYBAStones allergen free?

These mixes are allergen-free thanks to their stone-based composition.

I have mold growing in my pot with SYBAStones!

Noticed a smell or slimy texture after transplanting? A few things could be going on:

  • The roots were not fully cleaned
  • The mix is too wet
  • Some roots are dying from transplant shock

If you're sure the roots were clean or you're using a water cutting, the issue might be from dead plant material. Flush the pot thoroughly to rinse it out.

If the problem continues, inspect the roots. Some plants don't adapt well to mineral substrates and might not make the switch.

What plant pots do I use?

We recommend to use a self-watering plant pot!

You can use a water reservoir pot with your SYBAStones to create a semi hydroponics set up.

Most plants that love moist soils will appreciate this, such as aroids, calatheas, marantha, ficus, dieffenbachia, anthuriums and alocasias.

However for cacti & succulents, and other plants preferring dry soils, this is not recommended as these plants do not appreciate having moist roots all the time. Use a regular pot with drainage holes.
